Andalucia was hot! Too hot to get on with much work, but here are a few pieces that did manage to beat the heat, TV and shrieking teenagers.

BOOKS I HAVE LOVED
- Cannery Row and Sweet Thursday, John Steinbeck, sentimentality at its very best.
- Moby Dick, Herman Melville, a deep book of the deep.
- The Hunting of the Snark (An Agony in 8 Fits), Lewis Carroll (no comment...)
- Three Men in a Boat, Jerome K. Jerome. Laugh outloud!
- The Third Policeman by Flan O’Brian. Surreal, funny, puzzling, and a great introduction to this Brilliant Irishman.
- The Essays of Michel de Montaigne. A delight to read and a constant help in troubled times.
- The Confessions of Felix Krull, Confidence Man, by Thomas Mann. Mann’s only humorous book as far as I know. Not an “easy read” but well worth it.
- The Siege Of Krishnapur and Troubles, both by J G Farrell. Both books are inspired, funny, and tragic.
- "A Fine Balance" by Rohinton Mistry. One of my “best books ever!” Poverty, wit, pathos, humour and friendship set in India.
- "Drawing" by Phillip Rawson. The best book about the art of drawing ever written.
